Buying checklist
Seven hosting costs to verify
The advertised server price is not always the amount required to operate and protect a WordPress site.
Compare the complete operating cost
Write down each item for the same billing period and currency. Mark an item as included only after checking the provider’s current terms.
- Base hosting or server: note the regular price, not only the introductory discount.
- Backups and retention: check frequency, storage, retention period, and restoration fees or limits.
- Email hosting: many cloud-focused plans do not include mailboxes.
- Migration: verify whether professional migration is included and how many sites it covers.
- Security services: check malware cleanup, firewall features, and incident assistance separately.
- Premium support: confirm what normal support covers and whether faster or application-level help costs extra.
- Scaling and overages: understand how storage, bandwidth, visitors, or server upgrades change the bill.
Use a 12-month comparison
A monthly estimate can hide renewal changes and one-time costs. Compare the total expected cost for twelve months and record which assumptions could change.
Decision rule: pay for additional infrastructure only when it addresses a real requirement—reliability, growth, workflow efficiency, or a documented performance constraint.
Before clicking an offer
- Confirm the current price on the provider’s official website.
- Check whether tax is included.
- Read cancellation and refund conditions.
- Save the plan name and date reviewed.
- Avoid choosing solely because a commission-backed review labels a host “best.”
